Lord of the Rings #1

Very recently, I finished the first book of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This book, titled The Fellowship of the Ring, took me a long time to read, but I liked it enough to continue on to number two.           Before I read this, I read The Hobbit, the prequel to this series. The way this book was written was a little old-fashion, and my edition had almost unreadable small text,  but I loved the storyline and characters, who had very believable personalities. I thought that the beginning of the story dragged on too much, but once I got past that I liked the pace more. Unlike other books I've read, this book's storyline was not so predictable, which I feel is very important. Overall, I really liked this book, and would recommend it to anyone who like fantasy stories. I think it is important that before you read this book, you read The Hobbit, which gives very helpful background information. Thanks for reading!

  1. Given that it's a topic of conversation at our house, I've also purchased an illustrated/graphic novel version for Charlie... we'll see how it is when it arrives!

  3. Max - where do you weigh in on the age old question: Which is better the book or the movie?

  4. Max - I am a big Tolkien fan.

I am wondering how you would describe the characters of Frodo and his friends Sam, Merry, and Pippin?

Also, if they were to stop by Somerville during their journey = what would you make them for lunch?

  5. Not to be cranky, but I didn't like The Lord of the Rings as much as I did other books like The Golden Compass and the Chronicles of Narnia. Partly it was because I missed having great female characters, and partly it was because they spent so much time walking from place to place!

But I loved Kirsten's question about what to serve them for lunch. If they did stop, you'd have to stock up on groceries, as they like to eat seven meals a day--breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and supper (thanks Google!). Do you think they'd go for Dave's Pasta?
