Recently I've been writing in rhyme,
A,A,B,B,A every time,
I like limericks a lot,
They're more fun than I thought,
Syllable count? Nine, nine, six, six, nine;
(Here are some news-story related limericks I wrote. They may be a little out of date; I wrote them a little bit ago.)
(Pope Story)

(Rodman Story)
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/02/world/asia/way-to-reach-kim-jong-un-follow-the-ball.html?ref=dennisrodman
Pope Benedict XVI has retired,
For years, popes have merely expired,
Now he'll study and pray,
Day after day,
Soon a new pope will have to be hired.
Dennis Rodman went to the Far East,
To the country that likes us the least,
He tried to make amends,
Kim and he are best friends,
He's decided that Jong-un is no beast.
I began writing you a comment.
ReplyDeleteTo rhyme I could only think vomit
I thought for a few
But came back with poo
In the end I could only bomb it
Max! I also enjoy limericks,
ReplyDeleteAn interesting way to get one's kicks,
Alas, woe is me
No gift, poetic'ly
Thus rely on you to get my fix.
You rock!
I really laughed at your limericks. You are an extremely clever writer and I hope to meet you someday.
ReplyDeleteWow Max! I am so impressed with your skill at limericks. Great seeing you and Charlie today at Lynn's. Question...When you write a Limerick, how do you begin? Do you have a story in your mind or do you start with a first line and move on from there?
ReplyDeleteHave a good week,
Eliza
I have a story I want to write, then I start with a first line, and move on to line #2, the #3, and so on.
DeleteYoung Maxwell from somewhere near Boston
ReplyDeleteAch! sometimes he'd almost get lost in
the patterns of word-rhymes
like "bee's knees" or "prime-time"
or even "Jane Austen's from Austin"
excellent comments ...love the inspiration to others to write limericks!
